Windows 11 has become the most popular operating system on Steam Hardware, with a 3.36% increase since July. 49.17% of Windows Steam users now use Windows 11, despite a 3.07% drop in usage of Windows 10. Windows 7 and Windows 8 also experienced slight percentage drops, putting them on virtually zero usage.

Windows dominates Steam gaming with 96.78% of users, followed by MacOS at 1.30% and Linux at 1.92%.

Windows 11 adoption is increasing, with web usage increasing from 24% in July 2023 to 32% in August 2024, according to StatCounter. However, Windows 10 remains the most popular OS, holding a market share of 64%, despite the rise in Steam usage.

The Verge reports that Windows 11 took two years to reach 400 million active devices, compared to Windows 10’s one year and Windows 10’s one year, marking a significant milestone.

Will This Trend Continue on Steam?

Windows 11 is expected to continue growing in popularity, with occasional blips in its market share. Which will welcome news for Microsoft, as Windows 11. However a slow start due to Microsoft’s hardware requirements for the free upgrade.
